or Mental Illness

Sunrise Services Adult Family Homes provide residential care to the elderly and adults with disabilities in a family environment in single-family homes. No more than six adults are cared for in each Adult Family Home, allowing personal attention and the development of strong relationships. Services are provided by live-in, qualified and licensed providers and caregivers on shifts. Sunrise Adult Family Homes are designed for adults with developmental disabilities or mental illness, who are somewhat physically able, and for whom receiving services in their own homes is impractical. With a professional nursing assessment, we help define a uniquely personal, customized care plan for each resident as he or she chooses.

Our Adult Family Homes, located in beautiful neighborhoods in the Everett/Mukilteo, Snohomish and Kayak Point areas, feature private, spacious rooms. All the needs of daily living, including meals, housekeeping and laundry, medication reminders and supervision, and 24-hour professional staffing and oversight, are provided. Nursing support is available. Out-of-home leisure and recreation activities are supported, and private and public transportation are available to medical, shopping, and recreational activities. Friends, family and church activities are encouraged.

Sunrise Services Adult Family Homes are best practices certified, and employ only Positive Behavior Supports. We are certified by the Washington State Division of Developmental Disabilities, and licensed by the Department of Social and Health Services. With over twenty years experience in support for developmental disabilities, Sunrise Services is a leader in the field. We support you to thrive in joy and comfort.

Sometimes we even help dreams come true

Sunrise Services offers a continuum of community living services for adults with a wide variety of developmental disabilities and levels of skill and independence. We gladly accept participants who have major behavioral challenges, as well as those who have a dual diagnosis of developmental disabilities and mental illness.

Our programs are designed to assist individuals to develop self-determination, independence and competence by providing needed supports for daily living. Services are focused around goals identified through a person-centered planning process with the individual and the family. We help develop a unique, individual vision for the future, and assist in creating a plan with clear, meaningful steps to achieve this vision. Family, friends, and community connections are gladly welcomed and included in any way the individual desires.

Participants live semi-independently in their own homes – houses or apartments – and have the opportunity to select their own menus, do their own cooking, and make decorative choices about their homes. Our experienced and trained staff can help find this housing or provide services in the homes participants currently live in. Many individuals choose to live with one or two roommates to decrease housing costs and maximize the hours staff are present to assist them.

Staff-to-participant ratios are designed to provide optimum support and assistance. The number of hours of service received from Sunrise Services staff and the type of assistance given are based on participant needs. Staff train and support participants in the full spectrum of daily living tasks, including:

  • Employment/vocational coordination
  • Establishing and managing a home
  • Budgeting and money management
  • Cooking and shopping for food
  • Personal care and hygiene
  • Relationships with vocational, mental health and other agencies
  • Building circles of friends with family, neighbors, community members and professionals

  • Travel to work and activities
  • Self empowerment
  • Building lasting relationships
  • Becoming a member of the community
  • Health and nutrition management
  • Safety in home and community
  • Self-determination

community protection

Community Protection is a voluntary program for participants who have behavioral issues that if not addressed may lead to trouble with the law. The purpose of Community Protection is to build responsible maturity and character in the lives of participants, and to provide safeguards for both community members and program participants.

In addition to receiving the basic supported living services, participants live in more secure, designated houses or apartments. Intensive, 24-hour staff supervision and specialized supports prevent individuals from reoffending and help them learn new, more effective behavior patterns. The program is operated under policies established by the State of Washington Division of Developmental Disabilities.

We emphasize choice and accountability, the achievement of life goals, and the development of self-worth and empathy toward others. In addition to a person-centered planning process with the individual and family, Sunrise Services works cooperatively with the justice system, the Division of Developmental Disabilities, and treatment specialists to develop a community support network and individualized support plan for each participant.

We employ only Positive Behavior Support techniques. We also offer Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Emphasis is placed on listening, and on creating a climate of respect and personal security. Confidentiality is strictly maintained. Staff are carefully screened and fully trained in the specialized concerns of Community Protection participants.
